Ryan and his wife Amy met at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Upon graduating college, they both spent time in the Washington, DC/Baltimore area where Amy taught elementary school through Teach for America in Baltimore and Ryan attended law school in Washington.

When Ryan graduated from law school and Amy completed her commitment to Teach For America, Ryan and Amy returned to Colorado. Ryan and his family live in Highlands Ranch. Their oldest child is 3 and started pre-school in Douglas County schools this year. Ryan and Amy welcomed their second child in June.

Ryan has always been committed to serving his community. When he moved to Highlands Ranch, he ran and was elected to the Highlands Ranch Metropolitan Districts, the local government of Highlands Ranch. He has served on the board for nearly four years. In his first year on the board, his fellow board members elected him Chairman of District #4 and then appointed him to serve on the consolidated board after the 2006 election.

Ryan helped lead the effort to consolidate the four metropolitan districts, making local government operate more efficiently, decreasing the size and cost of government, and cutting taxes - saving taxpayers over a half million dollars.

Ryan's public service continued when he left his job at a Denver law firm and joined the First Judicial District Attorney's Office. Ryan served as a deputy district attorney for two and a half years, prosecuting a broad range of crimes including child abuse and sexual assault on children. Ryan also spent time in the Juvenile Unit of the District Attorney's office.

His experience in the District Attorney's Office led Ryan to call on the Douglas County Commissioners to pass an ordinance keeping registered sex offenders from living close to our schools and parks.

Ryan performs more than fifty hours per year of pro bono legal services. He is especially devoted to helping victims of domestic violence and child abuse.
